The Great Tiffany

The first thing I noticed upon retrieving my coveted Vogue from mailbox this am, were the jaw dropping jewels dripping from Carey Mulligan in her second mag cover. Turns out I was not alone-- my ever on-point, style savvy bestie, Bunia Zalmanov emailed a Tiffany's link, featuring the very same precious gems (a.k.a our new obsession). If I loved 20's style before, the fact that my favorite novel served as inspiration to collection, is merely the icing on top of a very bedazzled cake. Hubby, if you're reading this, I know my birthday isn't for a while, but I'm sure there must be something to celebrate. Really. Anything will do!

Suit Up

Matching sets via florals, stripes, patterns, and bold color pops equal this seasons new uniform. The fresh new look is certainly suitable for Spring. Careful not to over-style though. When donning busy threads, opt for an understated accessorie/shoe and vice versa. Now get pairing!

Bye-Bye Carbon Footprint... Hello Cool New Bike

Growing up in California afforded me the luxury of being raised among the Coniferous trees of Yosemite, the palm trees of Beverly Hills, and the evergreens in my backyard. While Earth Month is dedicated to bringing awareness to how we treat our planet, it's important to be conscious of preserving the environment every day! That's why when I saw this bike, I couldn't help but swoon.
Ditch the car keys and opt for this super cool set of wheels. "The Natural" by Panda Bicycles, is composed of farm sustained bamboo and won't run you dry on gas prices. Not only is going green super stylish, but biking has numerous health benefits (hello quads workout!) What better way to reduce our carbon footprint than by getting rid of it all together. PS- Recycling need not  apply strictly to paper and plastic. Shopping at Flea markets and thrift shops (hello theme song of my life!) is a great way to keep down the production of excess material, plus, you are guaranteed to score a dynamite one-of-a-kind find!

Fringe Benefits

Today was the first day in longer than I care to remember, where I emerged from abode sans wintercoat (and it was dynamite!) This Cali girl has waited far too long for some of that LA sunshine, and now that it's arrived I can hardly contain myself! Spring has sprung, my dears, and that calls for short skirts, oversize sunnies, and picnic basket + blanket in tow! Now it's off to swap my winter red mani to something a little more... Spring-- what's your go-to spring hue?

Happy Feet

Working an all-nighter in a hospital can certainly put a damper on things (to say the least), which is why fun, on-call footwear is absolutely essential! A print or textured shoe may attract odd glances and double-takes, but the sky is the limit when it comes to socks. Enter: My husband's wide array of stripes, polkadots, paisleys, and houndstooth. These prints lend a pop of vibrant color, yet are subtle--peeking out only every now and then. A perfect pick-me-up for doctor and patient!

Warm Flaky Blueberry Muffins

Breakfast and I go together like Madonna in church... we just don't mesh well. Don't get me wrong, breakfast food is Mahhhvelous-- eggs benedict, challah french toast, huevos rancheros, yogurt and granola, and so on and so forth. Yet the impression I get is that, cooking a really really good breakfast can be more daunting than making dinner, which to me seems a rather awful bother since dinner is my favorite meal of the day, anyway! But lucky for me (and you!) I have discovered the easiest, fastest and most delicious recipe for warm flaky, melty, blueberry muffins!

P.S. This recipe comes from a certain Department Store with a certain ahh-mazing cookie recipe... wink wink

6 Tbl light butter
3/4 cup pure cane sugar
2 large organic brown eggs
2 cups King Arthur organic white whole wheat flour
2 Tsp baking powder
1/2 Tsp salt
1/2 cup skim milk
2 Tsp vanilla extract (I always add more for good luck!)
1/4 cup almond extract
1 1/2 - 2 cups fresh organic blueberries
1 cup equal parts sugar and cinnamon

Preheat your oven to 375°F. Spray 8 deep dish muffin cups generously.

In a 5 quart mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until they're light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, and pulse on medium speed forming a crumbly mixture. Pour in the milk, vanilla and almond extracts, until it becomes a smooth batter. Quickly fold in the berries, do not overblend.

Fill the muffin cups to the top, leaving about half an inch to rise. Sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture. Bake the muffins for 25 to 30 minutes, until they're light golden brown. Set aside in a cool place,  allowing muffins to cool completely (as the muffins will be tender, and without sufficient cooling, they'll crumble when removed from the pan.) Once a muffin lifts out of the pan without crumbling, remove the rest of the muffins and enjoy! Yields 8 muffins.
